What 24 hour towing costs in Edison, NJ: $149 to book, $129 online, and no such thing as a night rate

The fee is fixed and it is written here so nobody has to argue about it at the curb. This page covers what the fee includes, which charges can legitimately follow it, which ones never will, and how to get your exact figure in one short call at any hour.

How a tow is priced

The formula for an Edison tow: $149 to book, then the miles, then nothing else

An Edison tow is priced as $149 booked by phone or $129 booked online, followed by the mileage to the address you give at a rate read aloud on the call; a winch or dolly charge is possible only for a car that cannot roll, and only after you have heard it and agreed.

01

The booking fee: $149 by phone, $129 online

The fee pays for the truck's trip out and for getting the car onto it, and it is identical at 4 a.m. and 4 p.m. Calling costs $149; filling in the online form costs $129, because a form takes less of the dispatcher's time than a call. It covers cars, SUVs and pickups on a wheel-lift or rollback; a van, box truck or bus needs a medium or heavy-duty truck and is priced as its own job.

02

The mileage

Measured from where the car sits to the address where it is dropped, at a rate you hear before agreeing. A run inside Edison, or over to Metuchen, Woodbridge, Piscataway or New Brunswick, is only a handful of miles. Anything to the shore, into New York or across a state line is long distance towing, quoted as one figure that already includes tolls and the empty return.

03

Winch, dollies, recovery

Only a car that will not roll or steer sees one of these on its bill: a front end folded at a Route 1 jughandle, an engine drowned on the river side, two wheels sunk in the grass at Roosevelt Park, a steering lock with the wheels cranked over. Usually the dispatcher hears it in your description and prices it on the call. If the driver discovers something you had no way of knowing, he names the figure before the winch is touched.

04

What never appears on the receipt

Nothing for night, weekend or holiday. Nothing for fuel. Nothing for one or two riders in the cab.

No storage and no release fee on a car delivered to your own destination. A quote costs nothing and commits you to nothing.

The $149 does not move because the mall shut three hours ago or because the garage opens in five.

Where the car is, where it should go, what it is: three answers and the dispatcher reads you the total.

One flat charge each for a jump, a tire, a lockout or fuel, anywhere in Edison

Anywhere in Edison, a jump start, a spare put on, a locked door opened or fuel brought to the tank is billed as one flat charge with no mileage, and most nights the car drives off afterward.

Jump start

Flat battery in a station row, the JFK deck or a driveway in North Edison. The packs handle cars, trucks and diesels, and if the battery refuses to hold a charge the tow is priced on the spot.

Flat tire change

The spare goes on at the curb on Oak Tree Road or on the edge of Woodbridge Avenue with the truck shielding you. No spare, or a second flat, and you are towed to the tire shop you pick at the tow rate.

Car lockout

Keys inside the car or the trunk at Menlo Park Mall, at a Raritan Center gate or on Amboy Avenue. Opened with the proper tools; no broken glass, no scratched paint.

Fuel delivery

Ran dry on Route 27, I-287 or a side street in Piscatawaytown. Enough gas or diesel arrives to reach the next open pump, at any hour.

Not certain it is a tow? Say so. The roadside charge is the smaller one, so that is what gets tried first.

Why the night price matters

Why a 2 a.m. quote in Edison should read exactly like a 2 p.m. quote

After dark is where Edison towing bills grow, so we bill the daytime figure at night and print it; a competing quote with an after-hours line on it tells you what else is coming.

An after-hours fee is a charge for having woken somebody, and it gets paid because a driver alone on Woodbridge Avenue at 2 a.m. is in no position to negotiate. Our night crew is scheduled, awake and already in the truck, so the charge has no basis and does not exist.

Storage is the second leak. When an unrequested truck drags a wrecked car off Route 1 to its own yard, the tow is joined by days of storage and a release fee by the time you track it down. Choosing your tow company and your body shop while you are still at the roadside is what stops an Edison accident from costing twice.

Roadside plan or towing coverage on the policy? Call us anyway, pay the quoted figure, and send the itemized receipt to the plan for reimbursement. In the small hours that is faster than waiting for the plan to find a contractor, and the receipt is laid out the way those desks expect.

The figure is free to ask for, flat, and identical at every hour.

FAQ

Pricing: common questions

Short answers to what people ask about this page; the dispatcher can answer the rest.

Does a night tow in Edison cost more than a daytime one?

No. $149 by phone, $129 online and the same mileage rate, whether it is midnight, Sunday or a holiday. There is no after-hours line on the receipt because there is no after-hours charge.

What is the reason for the $20 difference between phone and online?

A form you fill in yourself takes none of the dispatcher's time, and that saving is passed to you. From a shoulder, call anyway; the phone is faster and $20 is small next to a long wait.

Can the price change after I agree?

The booking fee cannot. The rest reflects what you described; if the driver arrives and finds, for example, wheels locked hard over that need dollies, he tells you that figure before anything is lifted.

Is there a storage charge?

Not on a car delivered to the shop, dealer or driveway you named, which is where every one of our tows ends. A daily rate comes into it only when you ask us to hold a vehicle, and you hear it first.

Will the receipt work for my insurer or roadside plan?

Yes. It separates the booking fee, the mileage and any winch or dolly work, on paper from the driver or by email from dispatch, in the layout adjusters and reimbursement desks ask for.

What can I pay with at 3 a.m.?

Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover, Apple Pay, Google Pay or cash, handed to the driver at the curb. Fleet accounts get one invoice a month on net terms.

Anything else? Ask on the call.
